The straight catheter, also called an intermittent catheter, is a soft, thin tube used to pass urine from the body. Straight catheters are usually made of plastic (PVC) and are only used one time and then thrown away.
We carry most of the Straight Catheter Types such as:
Coude is a French word meaning “curved.” Simply speaking, coude tip catheters are either indwelling catheters (foley) or intermittent (single use disposable) catheters with a slightly bent tip at the narrow end of the catheter.
Coude tip catheters are primarily used by patients who have difficulty catheterizing due to an enlarged prostate (BPH), urethral strictures or scarring. They tend to be more comfortable to use than typical straight catheters, because the curved tip tends to slide and bend around the strictures or enlarged prostate, as opposed to straight catheters, which tend to “poke” the obstruction and cause irritation and bleeding.
Coude tip catheters are manufactured in a variety of formats from “closed system”, hydrophilic, pre-lubricated, non-lubricated and even pocket size.
We carry a variety of Coude Catheter Types such as:
For those people who need to be on a regimented bladder management program, the gold standard of care is sterile intermittent catheterization. Usually prescribed to those patients with urinary retention conditions caused by Kidney Stones, benign prostate hyperplasia, Guillain-Barre syndrome and some other diagnoses.
Sterile intermittent catheters are designed to completely empty the bladder to maintain low bladder pressure and minimum residual urine volumes. This helps minimize the risk of urological complications, UTI’s and urethral strictures, resulting in an improved quality of life.
Straight intermittent catheters are available in a variety of materials including vinyl, red rubber (latex) and all silicone.
Pediatric intermittent catheters are available as well, in straight and coude, with sizes from 5fr – 10fr. They come in vinyl, all silicone and hydrophilic-coated.
Closed system intermittent catheter systems are designed to help create a sterile field and are made with a special “inducer tip” that helps bypass bacteria at the opening of the urethra. Also, since you never actually touch the catheter itself, there’s very little chance of cross-contamination and contracting a UTI. These systems are available with or without insertion supplies (gloves, sterile drapes, and prep pads). Most closed system catheter kits are available with latex free products as well.
We carry most of the Closed System Catheter Kit types from leading brands such as:
Pocket catheters are catheters that can fit in your pocket. Usually, they refer to intermittent catheters that are discreet and convenient. Pocket catheters serve the exact same purpose as regular catheters, however they are compact enough to fit into a pocket and thus bring a lot of privacy and convenience to the user.
We carry most of the pocket catheter kits from leading brands such as:
Hydrophilic catheters have a special coating that becomes slippery when exposed to sterile saline water creating a well-lubricated surface on the catheter. Hydrophilic coating is recommended for those who experience pain, pressure or discomfort during catheterization because it greatly reduces friction during insertion. Clinical studies have documented that hydrophilic-coated catheters significantly reduce the incidence of urinary tract infections (UTI’s) as well as urethral damage and trauma from withdrawal friction. Additional surveys have also shown that hydrophilic catheters have higher levels of user preference and patient satisfaction compared to other types of catheters. Some hydrophilic catheters come pre-packaged with their own sterile water and others are available in closed-system kits.
